Policy and Planning
Without a vision, there cannot be a plan.
At Pitt’s GSPIA Metropolitan Studies Department, I honed my skills in municipal and strategic planning, and was able to apply them to my role on the Shaler Township Planning Commission.
I was given a great opportunity when David Miller, founder of the Municipal Studies Department and the Congress of Neighboring Communities (CONNECT) Program, offered to mentor me in my studies.
Community Committees
Regional interconnectedness
My active roles in the Allegheny Corridor Bike Ped Committee, Millvale Bike Ped Committee, Walk Bike Ross, and Etna Pedestrian Alliance demonstrate my ongoing commitment to enhancing mobility and safety for all by working with and learning from our friends in neighboring boroughs.
I’ve also helped small businesses, who are beneficial to our community, take root. I went to bat for Little Rubie’s Learning Academy when their plans to establish a new daycare in the former Braun School building were jeopardized by outdated Township parking codes. To think, Shaler nearly missed out on the establishment of what has become a thriving business because a policy document required them to have more than 40 parking spaces. I testified at the Zoning Board in support of the parking variance, based on newer parking code standards from the Institute of Transportation Engineers, that indicated they needed only 23 for a daycare facility.
